Which Sea Moss is Better—Sun-Dried or Moist?

Are you curious about the difference between 100% sun-dried and sea moss? If so, we hope that this article can help to clear up any confusion.

There is a common misconception that moist sea moss is not "real" sea moss or that it is somehow inferior to sun-dried sea moss. However, this is not the case. Both sun-dried sea moss and traditionally moist sea moss are made from the same type of seaweed and contain similar nutrients. The main contrast between the two is the drying process, with sun-dried sea moss being dried in the sun and traditionally moist sea moss being sold in a moist form.

Drying Method

Sun-dried sea moss is dried in the sun after it has been harvested from the ocean. This process can take several days to complete, and it results in a product that is much drier and harder than traditionally moist sea moss. Sun-dried sea moss is typically sold in a powdered or flaked form, and it must be reconstituted in water before it can be used.

Traditionally moist sea moss, on the other hand, is not dried in the sun. Instead, it is harvested and then soaked in water to remove any sand or debris. It is then rinsed and cleaned, and it can be sold in its moist form.

Traditionally moist sea moss is softer and more pliable than sun-dried sea moss, and it does not need to be reconstituted for too long (usally 30 minutes - an hour).

Both types of sea moss have their own unique characteristics and uses, and it is up to personal preference which one to use. It is important to note that sea moss should be washed and soaked thoroughly before use to remove any impurities and to soften it.

Difference in Pricing

Sun-dried sea moss is often more expensive than traditionally moist sea moss because it takes longer to produce. The sun-drying process can take several days to complete, and it requires a large amount of labor and resources. In contrast, traditionally moist sea moss is simply harvested, cleaned, and sold in its moist form, which is a simpler and more efficient process.

It is also worth noting that the price of sea moss can vary depending on factors such as the location where it is harvested, the quality of the product, and the demand for it. In general, sun-dried sea moss tends to be more expensive than traditionally moist sea moss due to the additional time and resources required to produce it, but this is not always the case.

There is no evidence to suggest that one form of sea moss is more "real" or superior to the other. Both types of sea moss can be used in a variety of ways and can offer potential health benefits. It is important to note, however, that the potential health benefits of sea moss have not been extensively studied, and more research is needed to fully understand its effects on human health. Ultimately, you'll need to select the sea moss that best suits your preferences.

Are you having trouble deciding which species of sea moss to buy? Consider getting our sample pack for an easy way to try out each one! Not only that, but none of the samples will go to waste since sea moss can be used both internally and externally for health and beauty benefits.

Please note: Our sea moss comes in two varieties - moist and 100% sundried. The moist sea moss has been exposed to the sun for about 70-75% of the drying process to extend its shelf life.
